Hi everyone! I wanted to share with you an interview I did for ShopStyle that was recently featured on their blog. It was great to work with the ShopStyle team and answer their questions about myself and Just Add Glam. Check out the interview here or keep reading below. Have any other burning questions for me? Just Ask!
Where did the name Just Add Glam come from? What does it mean to you?
Just Add Glam came from my want to add a little bit of polish and glam to everyday. Whether I’m dressing more conservatively for work or creating a fun and unique look to show off my mood, I like to add an extra touch to make my outfit feel special.
What is the first thing you do in the morning after waking up?
When my alarm goes off, I reach for my phone to turn off the alarm. This is a bad habit and I’m trying to stop doing it, but I then start to check all of the notifications and emails on my phone. I can’t help it, I’m curious. But I’m hoping to break this pattern and start my day in a more relaxing way.
Where does sartorial inspiration for you usually start?
Inspiration can come in many forms. Maybe it’s a pair of shoes or a necklace that inspire me to create a look. Sometimes it’s another blogger or person I see walking down the street that provides a unique perspective on how to put an outfit together. Sometimes, it’s just standing in my closet and looking at different pieces until I see a pairing that I like.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
Pedicures with gossip magazines. I know that all of the news in those magazines isn’t true, but its still fun to take an hour on a Sunday to get a foot massage and read the latest celebrity gossip.
Is there one person you look up to or whose work/style you admire more than anyone else?
I really adore Olivia Palermo’s personal style. She’s classic, elegant, but with the right amount of edge. I would love to raid her closet for cute skinny pants, amazing shoes and big floppy hats! Also, I admire my mom’s sense of style. It is because of her that I’m the fashionista that I am today and it’s always fun to see what she’s wearing. Whether she’s wearing a classic Chanel suit or trend pieces with jeans from Target, she knows how to weave uniqueness into her outfits. I am constantly getting new ideas from her!
What music is usually playing when you getting ready for a night out?
My favorite song of the moment is ‘I Love it’ by Icona Pop. It definitely is great hair-curling, mascara-applying music and I might be guilty of keeping it on repeat…
What’s your favorite shoot for your blog that you have ever done?
My favorite shoot for Just Add Glam actually happened by accident. I was celebrating my birthday with my friend Mallory and we were going to have lunch at an Afghani restaurant when we spotted an old, rusted train and we thought, “Let’s do an outfit shoot!” It all kind of came together magically—the lighting, the way the train looked against my outfit, everything—and not to mention we were laughing so hard from me trying to climb on the side of the train in heels!
Where is your favorite place you have ever been?
I visited Dubrovnik, Croatia after I graduated from university and it was amazing to see such a beautiful city and see my family’s roots. I highly recommend Dubrovnik as an incredible travel experience.
Favorite meal of the day?
I stay very busy with work, blogging and my personal life, so lunch for me needs to be fast but still healthy and delicious. I am a Chipotle addict for their sustainability raised meats and organic veggies so on any given day, I’m nomming on a chicken salad with lots of salsa!
Favorite place to eat?
San Francisco is a foodie’s paradise and there are so many great restaurants for any kind of cuisine! I follow the paleolithic diet and have tons of options to choose from in my city. I love Lolinda for amazing Argentinean steaks and salads, and Hakkasan for Cantonese cuisine.
Favorite movie?
The Oceans movies (11, 12, and 13). I can watch them over and over and they never get old (possibly because of George Clooney and Brad Pitt?).
Favorite supermodel?
Coco Rocha. She’s so versatile and seems like a real genuine, down to earth person in interviews. Its really cool to see how her career has evolved.
What is your favorite trend for Spring 2013?
It’s exciting to see how much black and white is coming from the runways for Spring 2013! I love the idea of combining black and white together whether in stripes or separates, it’s just a clean and elegant look. Also, I’m excited to see the emergence of florals again. We all remember that sarcastic quote from The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” I know that florals in spring is nothing new but it’s nice to see the soft colors come through after winter.
Favorite designers or brands at this moment?
Proenza Schouler, Zara, Givenchy and J.Crew.
If you had to pick one, are you more of a shoe or an accessory person?
I used to be a shoe person but I’ve noticed that I’ve slowly been transitioning to an accessory person. I’ve been obsessed with big, jeweled statement necklaces the past few months and love how you can pair one with something as simple as an oversized sweater and skinny pants and it immediately ups the glam-factor of your outfit.
What are your three most-loved possessions in your closet?
Oh wow, that’s a hard question. That’s like asking which child is your favorite! My Zara camouflage skinny pants, Alexander McQueen dress that I scored for $79, and my Valentino Aphrodite bow bag.
Most loved piece of clothing or accessory?
I really love this taupe-colored jeweled statement necklace that I found on clearance. I have no idea what brand it is, but I find myself wearing it with almost everything.
Do you have any beauty items you can’t live without?
Fun fact about me: my nails are painted 24/7. I’ve garnered a large collection of Essie and OPI nail lacquers that keep me chip-free until I’m ready to switch colors! Also, I’ve got tons of hair…TONS! Its long, its thick, and subsequently requires a shampoo and conditioner that can provide moisture and strength. I discovered L’Oreal Elvive in London and I am obsessed with it. I brought back around 50 bottles to San Francisco and have been slowly dwindling my supply.
