I have to admit that we fell pretty behind with our home projects and chores in recent months (hey…new baby life!). While being at home during the COVID-19 pandemic has definitely been a challenging adjustment, it has given us more time as a family to accomplish a lot of the projects we have had on our to-do list for months. Many of these projects are very important but ones that often fly under the radar and most people forget about. I hope to accomplish many of these, and more, over the next few weeks and months as we continue practicing social distancing and self isolation. See below my complete home cleaning checklist to take care of while at home!
HOME CLEANING CHECKLIST
1. Paint Touch Ups
There are quite a few areas of our house that could use just a little bit of love and touch ups:
- Spray paint old smoke alarms that have yellowed over time
- Spacle and paint old holes and nicks (e.g. old nail holes from frames!)
- Magic eraser on smudges on walls
- Fix mistakes from past paint jobs (admittedly we have a few of these to do)
- Paint front door (we all know these doors take some abuse)
2. Unusual Cleaning
When we clean the house we stick to the typical deep clean of bathrooms, floors, and surfaces. However, there are lots of places that don’t get as much love on a weekly basis:
- Wipe down baseboards
- Clean out washing machine (using this washing machine cleaner!)
- Dust ceiling fans
- Steam clean upholstered furniture
- Deep clean appliances
- Wipe down devices (remotes, phones, alarms, thermostats)
- Drains (pour boiling water down your drain, add in baking soda, followed by vinegar, cover drain opening and let sit)
- Curtains (throw them in the washing machine if you can, or steam!)
- Trash cans
- Make-up tools and bags/organizers
- Indoor plants
3. Exterior Cleaning
- Power washing home exterior
- Power washing sidewalks/paths
- Deep clean porch furniture
- Wash window screens
- Wash your cars
- Hose down trash receptacles
- Replace and clean exterior light fixtures
4. Replace Filters
This is one we have been putting off too long. Some of the filters we know we need to replace in our house include:
- Water purifier
- Air filtration systems (heater, air conditioning units/central air, furnace, etc.)
- Vacuum
- Dehumidifier
- Dryer
5. Vacuuming
It’s not just for your carpets!
- Vacuum under the beds and couches
- Vacuum under couch and chair cushions and nooks and crannies
- Vacuum at baseboards with the tip attachment
- Vacuum out drawers for dust and random crumbs
- Vacuum air vents for collected dust
